Meet Kwanele

Kwanele joined our day care Centre when he was 3 years old.

He was diagnosed as ataxic Cerebral Palsied, which means that he has difficulty balancing and most movements are unco-ordinated. Kwanele had developmental delays when he started with us, and could not walk, talk, use the toilet or feed himself.

With the determination and assistance of our Care-Workers, Kwanele took his first steps in February 1998 - just before his fourth birthday.

DonateHe has been with us for 15 years and is now toilet trained and able to feed himself without help. Although he mimics words and sounds, he has no understanding of the meaning of the words. But he always has a big smile on his face and his laughter can be heard throughout the building.

Kwanele and his family live in poverty. The whole family lives in a tiny shack and relies on sponsorships for his fees and transport to the Centre.
